Cataract surgery is considered a medical necessity once a cataract is visually significant.
Most insurance carriers, including Medicare, will cover cataract surgery. If you choose a specialty lens, including any accommodative, multifocal, or astigmatism-correcting lens, then most insurance carriers will cover the surgical portion of the procedure, but not the specialty lens implant or follow-up treatments. Also, if you choose to have limbal relaxing incisions, those are also not typically covered.
We recommend that you contact your insurance carrier to determine exactly what will or will not be covered. As always, financing for non-covered procedures is available through CareCredit or Healthcare Finance Direct. Ask our staff for more details.
